We're raising a pre-seed round, should we use a SAFE or go straight to a priced round?
For pre-seed specifically, a SAFE is very likely the better fit - it's the instrument Y Combinator created specifically for this stage, and it's meaningfully cheaper and faster to execute than a priced round.

A priced round makes more sense once you have enough traction that both you and investors want the certainty of a fixed valuation and full terms - which usually isn't pre-seed.

I'd go with a SAFE with a reasonable valuation cap for this round.
