REL-04 — THE FRIENDSHIP & SOCIAL CIRCLE REBUILDER
I moved to a new city 3 months ago for work and I still don't really have any friends here. I've been to a few meetups but nothing's really stuck.
Three months and a few meetups is actually very early, even though it doesn't feel that way - research on adult friendship formation found it takes around 40-60 hours together to become casual friends and 80-100+ for real friendship, and a handful of one-off meetups likely adds up to just a few hours total.
The bigger issue is probably the one-off format itself - meetups are good for meeting people initially, but friendship actually forms through repeated contact with the same people, which a rotating meetup crowd doesn't reliably give you.
I'd look for something recurring with a consistent group - a weekly class, a running or sports league, a standing volunteer commitment - and go into it expecting the first month or two to feel like not much is happening.
That's normal, not a sign it's failing.
